About

Our story: Where craft meets purpose

SAKITA was born from a desire to reconnect with the quiet joy of creating by hand. After years designing digital products in the tech world, founder Christine longed for a more tactile, grounded way to express creativity — one that honoured simplicity, natural materials, and human connection.

Life shifted profoundly with the arrival of motherhood. In the haze of postpartum blues, Christine designed a new kind of bag — one that felt personal yet minimal, stylish yet practical. Unable to find anything that truly fit, she began making her first bag: a handcrafted leather tote called Ophelia, shaped as a natural extension of self.

Through these quiet acts of making, she found a renewed sense of calm, identity, and connection. As friends, colleagues, and strangers began asking about the bag, it became clear there was a shared longing for pieces that felt honest, sustainably made, and truly personal.

Today, SAKITA is rooted in this spirit of meaningful connection. Designed and handcrafted in Australia from full grain leather, each piece reflects a commitment to slow fashion, craftsmanship, and the beauty of thoughtful simplicity.

Our philosophy: Made for connection

At SAKITA, connection is at the heart of everything we do. The name itself blends Saya (I) and Kita (we) from Bahasa — a quiet reminder that individuality and belonging are always intertwined.

Each of our fine leather bags is shaped slowly by human hands. Never rushed. Never mass-produced. We honour the beauty of natural character — the subtle variations, the honest marks, and materials shaped with intention.

With minimalist design and a touch of personality, each piece is crafted to hold a sense of self and the stories carried along the way.

Our commitment: To slow fashion

Guided by respect for nature and community, SAKITA moves with purpose. In a fast-changing world, we follow a more mindful path — crafting fine leather bags that celebrate slow fashion, use sustainable materials, and reconnect us with the natural world.

“Every design begins with a question: what’s worth carrying? The answer is always fewer, finer pieces — handcrafted leather bags made for connection and conscious living.”
